Easy Watercolor Christmas Tree Painting

This is a very simple way to make a Christmas tree which can be used on a Christmas card or a bookmark. This can be made by anyone including complete beginners and children as well.

Materials used: 🌸 Watercolour 🌸 Watercolour paper 🌸 Brush 🌸 Masking tape And of course, water.

Now we will see how to make this easy Christmas Tree.

To begin the painting, as always, we will apply a thin layer of clear water over the upper part of the paper. Before the painting dries, we will add sky blue color where we want to have the sky. To make the sky blue, we mix Prussian blue with white. More white and less blue for a very light sky-blue color. We won’t apply the sky-blue color everywhere. We will apply the color in some parts of the paper only leaving few parts white. Now before the painting dries, we apply a second layer. This layer will be a little darker than the previous layer. You can either use less white color or a light shade of blue. This color we will also apply in some parts, wherever we want some darker sky. Add the colors before the painting dries so that both the colors blend nicely. If you apply the second layer after the painting dries then you might get some very hard edges which does not look nice in the sky. Try applying the colors in circular strokes. This will give a fluffy cloud feeling. You can add another layer of darker shade of blue if you want. Let the colors to dry completely. While the colors are drying, we will paint the ground. The ground is also full of snow. So, as we did for the sky, we will apply a thin layer of clear on the ground also. After that we will apply very light blue in a similar way as we did for the sky. But here instead of swatches, we will apply the color in straight strokes but in some places only. For some unevenness in the ground, we can create some round stones using dark blue. Once the painting dries completely, we will start working on the Christmas tree. For the tree we will start with lemon yellow. We will apply lemon yellow in dots here and there. We will not paint the lemon yellow in single stroke. This will give a realistic feel to the painting. As christmas trees a pine shaped that is narrow at the top and broad at the bottom. So, we will keep that in mind while painting the tree and make the top narrow and bottom broad. And we will increase the base gradually from top to bottom. Before the lemon-yellow dries, we will take green mixed with lemon and apply in dots over the lemon yellow. As the lemon-yellow layer is still wet, the darker green will blend nicely with the lemon yellow. After that we will apply a third layer of dark green. To make the green darker, we can mix a tinge of blue with the green. But be very careful, just add a tinge of blue. If more is added, then it will make the green very dark and it wont look nice. Apply this dark green at the bottom of the base of each step of the tree. Don’t add to the whole tree. Just the base of each step. Now the tree is complete. Its time to add some decoration. Whats a Christmas tree without decorations?

To add the decorations, we will some bright colors, like red, blue, yellow, orange. Using these colors we will add the different ornaments to the tree. We can add small circles and j-shaped candy canes to the tree. Then we can add some christmas lights on the tree. For this, we will use black color to make the wires around the tree. On the wire, we will make small rounds of different colors.

So, this is how we make an easy and simple Christmas Tree. You can make this tree on greeting card for a friend or on some bookmarks.
